Chandigarh: Theater for Theater (TFT), Chandigarh in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India organized a press conference to inform about the 16th TFT Winter National Theater Festival, which is going to begin on 27 March i.e. “World Theater Day

Giving information related to the festival, TFT Chairman Mr. Madan Gupta Spatu said that since the time restrictions related to Corona were imposed, theater lovers of Tricity were eagerly waiting for the theater, TFT’s 30-day fest. For which he was constantly receiving phone calls, messages, and emails from the audience.

Keeping in mind the desire and safety of the audience, TFT director Shri Sudesh Sharma decided to start the five-day festival, so that art lovers are not deprived of theater for long. The festival will either be Virtual (online)  or in the presence of a live audience. Decision on the same is yet to be taken by the administration.

Madan ji also told that TFT is feeling proud by offering a five-day fest to art lovers on special occasions like World Theater Day. Also, this festival will be special because TFT is going to complete 500 performances of its famous play “Court Martial” with the opening of the festival. Therefore, every effort will be made to make all the arrangements of safety with the cooperation of the administration to directly connect with the audience.

Recalling some old memories, Mr. Madan said that the 500th rendition of the court-martial is historical in itself, as once during 98-99 there was a time a period when theater in Tricity came to a standstill. The 500th rendition of ‘Court Martial’ is being performed again in the open air, which is a historical and wonderful feeling in itself.

About Plays:

The festival, which will be held from 27 March to 31 March on the open-air stage of the Punjab Kala Bhavan, will begin with TFT’s ‘Court Martial’, directed by Sudesh Sharma and written by Swadesh Deepak.  On the second day, the play ‘Chidiyaghar’ written and directed by Ankur Sharma will be staged. The play will be presented by ‘Yuva theater’ Jalandhar. On the third day, TFT will stage Ajmer Aulakh’s popular play ‘Sat Begane’ directed by young theater Gurpreet Bains.  On the fourth day, the Haryana Kala Parishad will stage a comedy-drama ‘Saiya Bhaye Kotwal’ under the direction of Sanjay Bhasin ji, written by Vasant Sabnis. The fest will conclude on the fifth day with TFTs’ presentation of the Hindi version of Jaywant Dalvi ji’s much-talked-about Marathi drama ‘Sandhya Chhaya’, directed by Mr. Sudesh Sharma.  Highlighting the new side of the festival, Madan ji said that for the first time TFT festival will have a live music performance. On the evening of 1 April, a semi-classical music program will be organized in the name of famous music personality Shri Suresh Nayak ji.  After serving in Bollywood with veterans like Lata Mangeshkar and Laxmikant Pyarelal ji, Shri Suresh Nayak ji is associated with TFT. Under his supervision artists Param Chandel, Gurpreet Bains, Raja Rajveer, and Vikrant Seth will be singing live along with playing musical instruments.

Entry to the festival will be absolutely free, Safety precautions like sanitizer and social distancing will be practiced. Viewers will not be able to enter without a mask and children under the age of 5 are not allowed to enter.
