200 boxes of illicit liquor seized, one held

Chandigarh, Dec 4 – Continuing its crackdown on liquor smuggling, Haryana Police has seized 200 boxes of illicit liquor which was being smuggled in a tempo in district Jhajjar. It also arrested the driver of the vehicle, who has been identified as Pradeep, a resident of village Kharhar in Jhajjar.

Giving this information here today, a spokesman of the Police Department said that a team of CIA Bahadurgarh had received a tip-off about a vehicle carrying of illicit liquor. After confirming the inputs, police team put blockade near village Nilothi. When the Police party signaled a tempo to stop for checking, the driver tried to escape by stopping tempo at a distance. Alert cops had immediately nabbed the suspect person and during checking of the vehicle, 200 boxes of illicit country-made liquor was recovered. The arrested accused failed to produce any license or permit with regard to the seized liquor.

A case under Excise Act was registered at Asoda Police Station and further investigation is underway.

It may be mentioned here that a drive against illicit liquor as well as to eliminate the organised criminals, drug peddlers and other offenders had been launched across the State.
