Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Sh Gian Chand Gupta inaugurated four-day T20 HAP Cup-2021 tournament for Divyang players

Panchkula, December 28: Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Sh Gian Chand Gupta said that today Divyangs are not only participating enthusiastically in various sports competitions, but are also bringing laurels to the country and the state with their outstanding performance. They have proved that disability does not mean incapability and with strong will power and determination, one can achieve any goal.

Sh Gupta was addressing after inaugurating the four-day T-20 HAP Cup-2021 Cricket Tournament for Divyang professional cricketers at Tau Devilal Sports Stadium, Sector-3, here today.

On this occasion, Sh Gupta announced to give Rs. 5 lakh to the players from his discretionary fund.

The T-20 HAP Cup-2021 tournament is being organized jointly by the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India (PCCAI) and Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DACCI) from December 28 to 31. Four teams of outstanding players from different states of the country are participating in this tournament. All the matches in the tournament will be played on a day and night basis. The final match will be played on December 31.

Sh Gupta said that one should never lose courage in life. If a person is Divyang from any limb but has high spirits, then he can achieve anything in life. While referring to Tokyo Olympics-2020, he said that the sports person who won maximum medals for the country hails from Haryana. Similarly, in Paralympics, Haryana players have won one third of the total medals won by the country thus bringing laurels to the State and the country.

He said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister, Sh Manohar Lal, Haryana is fast emerging as a Sports Hub. He said that besides strengthening and upgrading the sports infrastructure, several schemes have been implemented to encourage the Sports persons in the State. The sports persons of Haryana who win gold medals in Olympic Games are awarded with a cash prize of Rs 6 crore whereas, the winners of silver and bronze medals are given cash prizes of Rs 4 crore and Rs 2.5 crore respectively. Apart from this, Government Jobs as per qualification and plots of Haryana Urban Development Authority at concessional rates are also provided. The State Government has also honoured winners of Paralympics at par with the winners of Olympics, he added.

He said that as a result of sports policy of the State Government and hard work of sports persons, Haryana is performing outstandingly at various national and international sports competitions. He said that victory and defeat are two sides of the same coin and urged the sportspersons to play in the spirit of true sportsmanship.

Sh Gupta appreciated the President, Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India, Sh Surendra Lohia, for organizing cricket tournaments for the differently abled from time to time.
