Chandigarh: To commemorate the birthday of India’s most popular world-renowned ghazal singer Padma Shri Jagjit Singh and to promote this form of art, North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) has decided to organize a contest of singing of ghazals immortalized by Jagjit Singh. In the first of its kind initiative, the contest will be for the male category only with the age of eighteen years and above without any upper age limit. No entry fee will be charged. The contestant from any place can take part which will be at his own cost.
The contest is planned to be held in two rounds: Preliminary Round and Final Round. In the Preliminary Round, ten contestants will be selected through a live audition on 1st February, 2020 and these ten contestants will sing in the Final Round on 8th February, 2020 for First, Second and Third positions.
The winners will be honored with trophies and certificates.
Both rounds of the contest will be held at Mini Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh. Mr. Manoj Kumar (Mobile No 9988110378) from NZCC, has been appointed as the coordinator to whom the entries are to be sent. The contestants can send their entries through e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. However, the contestant can get his name registered on the spot on the day of the contest.
